Spain’s men’s soccer team returned home on July 20th after winning the World Cup. Almost 2 million fans gathered in Madrid, the capital of Spain, to welcome the players. The team arrived one day after they beat Argentina 1-0 in the final match in New Jersey, US.
The 26 players and their coaching staff met with the country’s royal family. Then, they visited Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez.
After these meetings, the squad boarded an open-top bus for a loud and exciting parade through central Madrid. The bus displayed the message “Stars shine together” and featured photos of the footballers. The players carried the World Cup trophy and wore shirts with the words “Somos Campeones” (“We Are Champions”). They danced and interacted with the fans along the route.
The men’s victory, combined with the Women’s World Cup won by Spain in 2023, makes history for Spain. Spain is now the first country to hold both titles at the same time.
