Robots have long been seen as a bad bet for Silicon Valley investors — too complicated, capital-intensive and “boring”. But the commercial boom in artificial intelligence has sparked new interest in building humanoid robots that can move like humans and do things that people do.
Modar Alaoui, founder of the Humanoids Summit in Silicon Valley, gathered more than 2,000 people in December 2025, including top robotics engineers from Disney, Google and dozens of startups, to showcase their technology and discuss how to grow this new industry.
Disney’s walking robotic version of “Frozen” character Olaf will roam on its own through Disneyland theme parks in Hong Kong and Paris early this year. Complex robots that look like humans are already here, but “general purpose” robots that can work productively in workplaces or homes are still far away.
