The U.S., Arab countries, and Turkey　pressured Israel and Hamas to agree on a　ceasefire that began on October 10th. The war　started on Oct 7th, 2023 after Hamas militants　killed 1,200 Israelis and took 251 hostages.　Since then, it has killed tens of thousands of　Palestinians, displaced most Gazans, turned　much of Gaza into rubble, and caused famine.
 　In the ceasefire’s first phase, Hamas released　20 Israeli hostages, and Israel freed nearly　2,000 Palestinian prisoners. Israel also agreed to　reopen five border crossings to allow food and　aid into Gaza and to let hundreds of thousands of　displaced Palestinians return home.
 　U.S. President Donald Trump made a quick　trip to the Middle East. He visited Israel and　joined a 30-nation summit in Egypt, which　included countries from Europe and the Middle　East. The summit aimed to support the Gaza　ceasefire, end the Israel-Hamas war, and　rebuild Palestinian territories.
