Canada, Austria, Greece and Italy have proposed fining or other penalties for those who are unvaccinated.
In Canada, the French-speaking province of Quebec announced on Jan. 11th that it is seeking to impose financial penalty on those refusing to get jabbed. The amount has not been decided but will be “significant”. “It's a question of fairness for the 90% of the population who have made some sacrifices. We owe them,” said the authorities.
Other countries have similar measures. Austria is the first in Europe to make vaccination mandatory, with fines of up to 3,600 euros for non-compliance. In Greece, a monthly fine of 100 euros will be imposed on those over 60 who are unvaccinated, starting on Jan. 16th. In Italy, those over 50 will face fines of 600-1,500 euros if they’re not vaccinated.
Fining or taxing unvaccinated adults could be a controversial move and will likely face legal challenges.
